Bella Lago Chula Vista, Harris Fire, Ensenada Fire

By afternoon today, the city of Chula Vista had voluntary evacuations for its eastern section as the Harris fire continues to cut a path west, so far killing 1, injuring 18, and burning 20,000 acres.

Teams of Chula Vista police officers are alerting residents in Bella Lago, the Woods at Eastlake, areas of San Miguel Ranch and areas of Rolling Hills Ranch to leave.

1. Evacuation boundaries are: East of Mt. Miguel Road, north of Proctor Valley Road, east of Hunte Parkway and north of Otay Lakes Road.

2. An evacuation center: Chula Vista High School, 820 Fourth Ave.

The Harris Fire started at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Harris Ranch Road near Potrero. Resident Tom Varshock was killed while trying to save his Potrero home and his 15 year old son is covered with 50% of his body in burns.

3. State Route 94 is closed from Otay Lakes Road to Forest Gate Road.

4. Honey Springs Road nearby is also closed.

5. Steele Canyon High School in Rancho San Diego, the Campo Community Center, and Santana High School in Santee are evacuation centers.

6. Another fire Monday started in Mexico and struck Rancho La Puerta, a 3,000-acre luxury spa in the Tecate area, according to Mexican authorities.

7. Baja California is also battling a fire in the Ensenada area.

8. The Descanso fire, also called the McCoy fire, has burned 400 acres by Monday morning. It is expected to be out by Tuesday.
