Poor Judgment

The media has been reporting on the recent births of octuplets to a woman in California. The woman, who already had six children ranging in age from two to seven, decided she wanted more children. She resides with her parents and there is no father in the picture. Why would anyone with six very young children make a decision to have eight more?

The fact there is no father in the picture and that she resides with her parents would suggest that she is a person of very modest means. There is also a high probability that she is getting some type of social assistance. There has been a lot of controversy about this case ranging from support for the woman’s right to choose to her decision being a burden on the other children in the family.

As this birth was as a result of her participation in a fertility program and in consideration of the woman’s existing family, why didn’t the medical professionals weed her out of that program? Her decision to have more children cannot be rationalized in any acceptable manner except that it was done solely to satisfy her own self-serving desires.

The medical professionals need to take more responsible decisions in these matters. Why didn’t someone just say no to this woman? db
