Almost Famous

“Almost Famous” was on. I haven’t seen the movie in a LONG time. It’s been years. Cameron Crowe’s story about the fictitious band, Stillwater’s journey to some sort of notoriety is still a treat to watch.

The characters are unforgettable from Frances McDormand as the overbearing mother, Patrick Fugit as the naïve journalist following the band, Kate Hudson as the “band-aide” Penny Lane and also Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the disillusioned rock journalist Lester Bangs.

Amazing cast. The soundtrack is great. I love the songs from Stillwater. “Fever Dog” is so groovy. Wow, I never thought that I would write that is a review. Even hearing the throwbacks like Elton John is great. Everybody singing “Tiny Dancer” on the tour bus. Classic.

There are people out there that are totally into music, like it’s their drug. Movies like this one and “High Fidelity” come to mind. I’m more of a cinemaphile myself. It’s all an escape from your shitty life. The arts are essential like the air we breathe.

If you want to be lost in a world of sex, drugs and rock-n-roll, check out this movie. You will not be disappointed.
