Rescue boats were called out this evening after someone reported seeing two people in a kayak or canoe who appeared to be in distress on the Missouri River as thunderstorms rolled in. The watercraft’s location was reported to be near the Wheeler Downtown Airport. Three rescue boats searched the river between the Chouteau Bridge and the airport, but found nothing. With lightning posing a hazard, the rescue boats were called back to shore.
