Nags Head, North Carolina - The Outer Banks

Sandy beaches, fine dining, sailing, fine dining, and historic sites, all available in one area, is hard to find. However, in Nags Head, North Carolina, you can find all of the above and much more, all for a price almost anyone can afford.

One feature that everyone who visits Nags Head should explore is Jockey’s Ridge. The largest sand dune on the East Coast has covered a golf course, hotel, and even a castle as it moved across the Outer Banks, all of which are available to tour. Nearby is the infamous Kitty Hawk beach, where the Wright Brothers took their historic first flight.

The charming Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is donned with black and white stripes in a diagonal “candy cane stripe” pattern and is the tallest lighthouse in the area.

In late spring or early fall, Nag’s Head has the perfect climate for long days on the many golf courses in the area, or renting a bike and exploring the winding trails, which go through both beaches and forests.

There are several affordable restaurants in the area. A good restaurant that is open all day is Dune’s Restaurant. Most entrees are around $10, and focus on chicken, steak, or seafood. NC Mulligan’s is another nice restaurant, also serving American cuisine with an emphasis on seafood. They feature several types of hamburgers, even one with crab meat.

For children, there are several attractions that may be appealing. There is a putt-putt course, as well as bowling, and several businesses cater toward providing teens with evening and night entertainment.

Overall, Nags Head is a great place to stay while you explore North Carolina’s Outer Banks, and has many cheap and even free attractions that everyone can enjoy. The real challenge is deciding what to see in a limited time.
