2013 Buick Regal Will Get 36-MPG eAssist Engine Standard
The 2013 Buick Regal will be available with a new four cylinder engine next year that will get 36-mpg. The new engine from GM’s eAssist family of electric assisted engines, will replace the base engine in the Regal.
The current base engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that is rated at 32-mpg highway. The eAssist engine will also be 2.4-liters but will get 13% better fuel economy, with a 36-mpg highway rating. eAssist engines use a small battery pack and electric motor to help the gasoline engine with acceleration in situations where fuel economy would normally suffer. Unlike a hybrid powertrain, the eAssist is not capable of running on electric power alone.
The 2013 Buick Regal GS, which comes with a 270-hp turbocharged engine, will be available with an automatic transmission finally. Buick is claiming that the automatic transmission Regal GS will have the same performance as the stick shift model, with a 6.7 second 0-60 time. The automatic transmission will be rated at 19-mpg city and 27-mpg highway and will be a no cost option on the 2013 Regal GS.
