As you already know, this past year Mercedes Benz released its latest E Class Sedan and Coupe. To add to that now comes the Cabriolet in both the E350 and E550 models. A wagon will also be eventually added to this neatly packaged lineup.
I have to side step for a moment and say that I was already confused enough about Mercedes whoring out the AMG badge on just about every single car they put out. Now this? What was wrong with the CLK’s of the past? I’m sorry but seeing the E Class as strictly a 4 door sedan for so long has been something I’ve had a hard time letting go of. It was their main bread winner sales wise and I hope this doesn’t jeopardize that.
Anyways back to the E-CLK Class convertible. The E350 will have a 268 3.5L V6 and the E550 will be fitted with a 382hp 5.5L V8 (not that great, I know and don’t hold your breath for an E63). The cabriolet also comes with a ski bag compartment (not that you’d ever go skiing with a drop top), drop top made of canvas type material, plenty of trunk space not normally seen with convertibles and a spoiler called an Aircap above the front windshield frame to help you avoid getting wind in your hair while driving. Prices aren’t known yet but expect a $5k-$7K jump over the coupe E350 and E550 which sit at $49K and $55K respectively.
