Casting: Stage Sensation Samantha Banks Joins ‘Les Miserables;’ Shia LeBeouf in ‘The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman;’ and ‘Mia Wasikowska in ‘The Double’

Tom Hooper surprised many when there was word that he was considering casting Taylor Swift to his movie adaptation of Les Miserables. While Swift has plenty of musical talent in her repertoire, the artist doesn’t have too much acting experience. Which is probably why Hooper has decided to cast a Broadway musical star to his movie. According to Variety, the director is bringing in Samantha Banks to play as Eponine. Ironically the stage star played the same character in the 2010 London production of Victor Hugo’s classic. She joins a cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Eddie Redmayne and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Next up we have Shia LeBeouf joining the cast of The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. The Transformers star actually was tapped to star in the film about an average guy who falls in love with a woman who has been claimed by a drug lord. Before LeBeuof returned to the role, Zac Efron was attached to appear in the movie. Now that LaBeouf’s schedule has cleared, the actor can come back to his apparent passion project. LaBeouf next stars in John Hillcoat’s bootlegging drama THE WETTEST COUNTY and Robert Redford’s political thriller THE COMPANY YOU KEEP. [Variety]

Finally we have Mis Wasikowska being added to the cast of Richard Ayaode’s The Double. She joins Jesse Eisenberg in a movie based on Dostoyevsky’s The Double: A Petersburg Poem, which tells the story of man named Golyadkin whose life is on the verge of destruction due to the sudden appearance of a literal facsimile of his self. The report from Variety doesn’t elaborate on what role Wasikowska will have in the movie. [Variety]
