France’s Sarkozy says he will run for re-election

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Wednesday that he will run for re-election in the country’s upcoming presidential election to be held in April and May, according to media reports. Confirming widespread speculation, Sarkozy told an interviewer on French television that he would seek a second term. The center-right politician trails his main rival, Socialist Francois Hollande, in national polls ahead of the first round, which will be held April 22. The second round, if it’s needed, will be held May 6.
