Dunlap On The Rise

During most of the 2010 season the Bengals pass rush seemed to be non-existent, injuries definitely played a role, but one of the few bright spots however had to be 2nd round pick Carlos Dunlap who finished the season with a rookie team record of 9.5 sacks which he accumulated with limited playing time. Dunlap saw most of his game action towards the end of the year due to player injuries and made the most of his opportunities.

I know there are Bengals fans like myself that would love to see what Dunlap can do given the opportunity to start at DE for a full season, granted that he will draw a lot more attention and double teams. A big question will be whether Antwan Odom and Jonathan Fanene are able to stay on the field and come back from their injuries to help apply some pressure from the other side. I would also like to see if Geno Atkins can help create more push in the middle with more playing time. Either way it is nice to have a young athletic player on the rise like Dunlap who, barring injuries, should only get better under defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and  DL coach Jay Hayes. This team has to find a way to apply pressure and improve on their 2010 team total of 27 quarterback sacks.

DE Carlos Dunlap – 2010 stats:

Games – 12
Games Started – 0
Total Tackles – 24
Sacks – 9.5
Passes Defended – 3
