The Twins were smart to pull the trigger, and acquiring J.J. Hardy was a good move, but fans should acknowledge the trade's drawbacks: overall weaker outfield defense and Delmon Young's deficiencies.

The Milwaukee Brewers have traded J.J. Hardy to the Twins for Carlos Gomez.
This could impact the Rangers, since Gomez taking over in center for the Brewers means Mike Cameron likely won't return to Milwaukee. Cameron is a guy the Rangers could bring in on a one year deal, if they decide they don't want to go multiple years for Marlon Byrd, and they aren't ready for Julio Borbon to be in center just yet.

I did NOT see that coming. It's been confirmed pretty much everywhere.
According to MLBTradeRumors, thanks to Hardy's midseason demotion in '09, he's under team control for 2010 and 2011.
Hardy had good seasons in 2007 and 2008 at the plate, putting up OPS+ numbers north of 100 both seasons, but was terrible last...
