Carlos Gomez Carlos Gomez, who used to be a Mets Prospect, is having a magnificent season as the Twins new Outfielder. Last year with the Mets Gomez had a .232 Avg with 12 stolen bases, but really didn't do anything to help the team win down the stretched. But now as a Twin, "Speedy Gonzalez" is doing better than he did with the Mets last season. He is batting for and average of .333, with 5 RBIs and leads the Majors in stolen bases with 5. Gomez has turned out to be what the Twins wanted when they made this trade to get him ... Read Full Story

Carlos Gomez vs. Torii Hunter. $395,000 vs. $16,500,000. 22 years vs. 33 years. Does this comparison also show the difference between 'young and promising' and 'good'? A (slightly homoerotic) poem by youthful Twins outfielder Carlos Gomez, who speaks to his bat before every trip to the plate. A boy and his bat When I was 10 years old Every time you see me at the plate I smell it, I kiss it I talk to my bat I do it depending on the situation. Sometimes I tell it, 'Come on, get a base hit now, or I won't use you no more, you have to get a base hit.' When the bat does his thingbase hitafter that, I kiss it. I love my bat. I say sometimes, 'I love you, ... Read Full Story

Carlos Gomez of the Twins, the poet-to-be-named in the trade that sent Johan Santana to the New York Mets, penned this gem after hitting for the cycle on a dreary, rainy evening in Chicago. Bunt My Ass When I go to hit, I think I hit bunt. And I say, No, no, no, no. You can do it. You can hit a base hit off this guy. I say Go swinging. Go hacking, And when I hit the ground ball, I close my eyes and I run And when I see the pitcher drop the ball, I say, You got it! You got it! Read Full Story

The Milwaukee Brewers have traded J.J. Hardy to the Twins for Carlos Gomez. This could impact the Rangers, since Gomez taking over in center for the Brewers means Mike Cameron likely won't return to Milwaukee.  Cameron is a guy the Rangers could bring in on a one year deal, if they decide they don't want to go multiple years for Marlon Byrd, and they aren't ready for Julio Borbon to be in center just yet.

The first report was from Brewers.com, via Twitter: Brewers acquire CF Carlos Gomez from Minnesota in exchange for SS J.J. Hardy. I did NOT see that coming.  It's been confirmed pretty much everywhere. According to MLBTradeRumors, thanks to Hardy's midseason demotion in '09, he's under team control for 2010 and 2011. Hardy had good seasons in 2007 and 2008 at the plate, putting up OPS+ numbers north of 100 both seasons, but was terrible last...
