Ever wonder what it'd be like to be the richest man in the world?

NY York Times to "Deal" with Carlos "Slim" Helu

The NY Times, struggling these days as are many companies who are involved with print media when the rest of the planet has basically found out about the Internet, iPhones, and other means of advertising, is in the process of striking a deal with one Carlos Slim Helu, a Mexican billionaire who has offered to slip some cash to the struggling Times in return for using the paper to move thousands of kilos of whatever can be stuffed into a roll of the New York paper in what appears to be a hopeful sign for the outdated print media giant.

"James Smitherson," a border guard near Nuevo Laredo, Texas states he has seen a fourfold increase in NY Times readership in the last month alone in the little Tex-Mex hub.
"We can see them (the Mexicans) reading the financial section, then rolling up their papers and placing them into the trunk of their cars. I can only assume they are taking the paper back to their friends and families to look for bargains in the ad sections of the paper."

The Rag Box is unable to verify anything Smitherson has stated, noting that Helu became a billionaire largely through his stake in the Mexican telephone giant Telmex from where the money is expected to come.

The initial offering of $250,000,000 million dollars in loans to the Times has since been reduced to about $34.50, not because of a lowering of the initial offer but as a result of the falling value of the dollar itself. The deal may not consummate if the Times is unable to agree to terms before the newspaper company owes Telmex without even having done any more than speculative business with them.
