Ex-Detroit mayor late, $3,500 short on restitution
Authorities say former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was three days late and $3,500 short on a May restitution payment ordered as part of the criminal case that drove him from office.
Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Russ Marlan says the payment due on the 15th of each month came on May 18 and was only for $2,500 of the $6,000 required.
A judge in March ordered Kilpatrick to pay $6,000 a month in restitution. If Kilpatrick fails to make full payments he could be found in violation of his probation.
Kilpatrick resigned in September and served 99 days in jail. He and a top aide were charged with lying during a police whistle-blowers' trial.
A Kilpatrick lawyer did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment early Wednesday.
