Chairlift
Something
Brooklyn’s Chairlift might have strayed a little from their original remit to “make background music for haunted houses” since the departure of co-founder Aaron Pfenning in 2010 (replaced here by Patrick Wimberly), but album number two is all the better for it. Nimbly treading the line between airy cool and immediate accessibility, Something is more than just an exercise in poise; there’s a streak of deeper concerns beneath its many pure pop moments. Starting with a rumble...Read Full Story
The low tempo, drowned in the ocean single by Washed Out is more than just the definition of chillwave, for the track was apart of Adult Swim’s “8 singles in 8 weeks” project and features a repeated verse from Caroline Polachek (of the band Chairlift). The lyrics, which makes the song more poetic than the average romantic or day-to-day lo-fi song, are drenched sounding and even the synths are muffling throughout the song where you can barely get an understanding of the skeptical anti-love...Read Full Story

It’s pretty neat when that overwhelming feeling of warmness comes over you when you accomplishing something. For me this tends to happen when I hear a song that makes me shiver. The track is You and I by Washed Out, and features the very talented Caroline Polachek. Together the two come together to create something unreal.
More great tracks are listed on Washed Out’s myspace- take a gander there and then check him out on the Kitsune Maison Compilation 9 album available here.

‘Amanaemonesia’
Chairlift’s own Caroline Polachek co-directed this part-animated video for stealthily addictive recent single ‘Amanaemonesia’. It helpfully comes with a guide to the rather obtuse lyrics and some kicky choreography to learn as Caroline unleashes her inner gymnast / interpretive dancer.Read Full Story

Chairlift at the Mohawk. With “Something” (Columbia), Aaron Pfenning and Caroline Polachek have created an album in a mode that used to dominate the pop landscape: that of the synthpop duo. It’s not Yaz’s “Upstairs at Eric’s” and comes in a distant whatever to all of the Pet Shop Boys 1980s work, but it’s pretty excellent blip-and-croon. With Nite Jewel and Bell. 7:30 p.m. $10 advance, $12 day of show. 912 Red River St. www.mohawkaustin.com...

IN THE MUST-WATCH Choose Your Own Adventure-style video for "Met Before," Chairlift's Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly are shown in an immaculate laboratory, wearing white coats and safety goggles, hovering thoughtfully over a laser microscope. The image is a bit jarring at first: How could these blithe Brooklynite electropoppers possibly thrive...
