It wasn’t until recently that I realised how much I have in common with one of popular culture’s truly inspirational characters, Paddington Bear. And returning to the UK after several years spent in South America has served to affirm my affinity. I hadn’t known about this until I read Todd’s blog entry at Life 2.0 — Seems Warner Bros. finally released Freakazoid on DVD. For those unfamiliar with the short-lived animated series here’s a brief synopsis from Wikipedia: The show chronicles the adventures of the title character, Freakazoid, a manic, insane superhero who battles with a vast array of super villains. The show also features mini-episodes of adventures of other bizarre super heroes. Can it get any better than this? Giant this and Monster that with the Sleestak, Marshall, Will, and Holly on a routine expedition with the greatest earthquake ever known! Twenty three years before Peter Jackson created his version, Rankin/Bass produced their 1980 made-for-televison, animated version of Tolkien's Return of the King . This papercraft is my rendition of the "Phial of Galadriel" as it appears in the Rankin/Bass version of the story. The Phial of Galadriel is a small bottle which the Elf queen Galadriel gives to the Hobbit Frodo Baggins to assist him in his quest. The phial is capable of magically emitting a bright star-like light. Galadriel describes the phial as "a light for you in dark places, when all other lights go out."
