From Peru to Paddington

By Tony Trainor on  From tonytrainor.com
It wasn’t until recently that I realised how much I have in common with one of popular culture’s truly inspirational characters, Paddington Bear. And returning to the UK after several years spent in South America has served to affirm my affinity. October of this year marked the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the bear who arrived alone at London’s Paddington Railway Station after having been sent by his owner all the way from “Darkest Peru” with little more than a blue duffle coat...Read Full Story

Get your Freak on!

By Mark Bruno on  From markbruno.wordpress.com
I hadn’t known about this until I read Todd’s blog entry at Life 2.0 —  Seems Warner Bros. finally released Freakazoid on DVD. For those unfamiliar with the short-lived animated series here’s a brief synopsis from Wikipedia: The show chronicles the adventures of the title character, Freakazoid, a manic, insane superhero who battles with a vast array of super villains. The show also features mini-episodes of adventures of other bizarre super heroes. Can it get any better than this? Freakazoid...Read Full Story

Phial of Galadriel Papercraft

By Tektonten on  From tektonten.blogspot.com
Twenty three years before Peter Jackson created his version, Rankin/Bass produced their 1980 made-for-televison, animated version of Tolkien's Return of the King. This papercraft is my rendition of the "Phial of Galadriel" as it appears in the Rankin/Bass version of the story. The Phial of Galadriel is a small bottle which the Elf queen Galadriel gives to the Hobbit Frodo Baggins to assist him in his quest. The phial is capable of magically emitting a bright star-like light. Galadriel...Read Full Story

Retro Cartoon Robot Papercraft

By Tektonten on  From tektonten.blogspot.com
There are two things that always make me smile: monkeys and robots. So you can expect to see builds of both in the future. :) Today the post goes to robots. On the left is Rosie the robot maid from the early 60's American television cartoon The Jetsons . The model may look simple but it actually took some time to complete. The original template is very small, without instructions, and was notRead Full Story

Do you have a favorite cartoon character? Maybe you're a Pokemon fan, or you're gone for those adorable Care Bears. Or maybe you're like my girlfriend, who can't get enough of the Smurfs.Did you ever stop to think what was your favorite growing up? One of the earliest cartoons I remember growing up with was a Japanese cartoon called "Kimba, the White Lion." I loved the little guy and all his jungle friends. It reminded me some of the old Tarzan movies my parents would let me see on Saturday...Read Full Story
