Cary Grant news, related photos and videos, and reviews of Cary Grant performances. According to Wikipedia: Archibald Alexander Leach, better known by his screen name, Cary Grant, was an British film actor. With his distinctive Mid-Atlantic accent, he was noted as perhaps the foremost exemplar of the debonair leading man, handsome, witty and charming. He was named the second Greatest Male Star of All Time of American cinema by the American Film Institute.
Savile Row tailors Kilgour provided much of Cary Grant’s wardrobe for North by Northwest . In all probability director Alfred Hitchcock left Grant to his own devices in selecting his ensembles, just as he’d done on To Catch a Thief four years earlier.
If this was, in fact, the case, Hitchcock was not so trusting with Eva Marie Saint’s wardrobe. Disliking initial design sketches for her look, he escorted Marie Saint to New York’s swanky Bergdorf Goodman department store, personally... Read Full Story
I managed to get a head start to the Cary Grant week on Sky Movies, as “Charade” is on anytime TV so it made for a good movie to watch when I woke up early on a Sunday morning. It was very charming and funny, no I am not just talking about Cary Grant I am referring to the whole movie.
The basic plot is romance and suspense in Paris, as a woman is pursued by several men who want a fortune her murdered husband had stolen. Who can she trust? The woman is Regina Lampert (Audery Hepburn... Read Full Story
One of the things I enjoy about living in Palm Springs is the multitude of old Hollywood history that can be found nearly everywhere. I recently had dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Copley's on Palm Canyon, which is at the former home of Cary Grant. This was the inspiration for this week's scintillating edition of The Saturday Seven: Facts About Cary Grant. Mr Grant was perhaps one of the greatest leading men on the silver screen. With a film career that spanned over thirty years... Read Full Story
Cary Grant, Hollywood Leading Man
One of the most handsome and sophisticated leading men in Hollywood in the 1930s and 40s, and even into the 50s was Cary Grant. Although we’ve come to know him by his stage name of Cary Grant, he was actually born Archibald Alexander Leach on January 18, 1904 in Bristol, England. His parents were Elsie Maria Kingdom and Elias Leach. His father pressed trousers for a living and the family was quite poor. Grant was an only child. His parents argued... Read Full Story

I have been trying to see the classics for a couple of years now. I'm not so sure that Operation Petticoat is considered a classic, but it does star Tony Curtiss (father of Jamie Lee) and Cary Grant , who is a classic actor. The movie was directed by Blake Edwards , director of the infamous Pink Panther movies and Breakfast at Tiffany's . The movie even casts minor roles for Marion Ross (Happy Days) and Dick Sargent (I Dream of Jeanie). Operation Petticoat is a comedy about the U.S.S. Sea... Read Full Story
Walter, you’re wonderful, in a loathsome sort of way.
– Hildy Johnson
His Girl Friday was a recommendation from the hosts of the Cinebanter podcast a couple of months ago. In this classic movie viewing month, this movie was on the top of my list to watch. Currently ranked on the Top 250 of All Time on IMDB at #216 , this movie moved at a rapid pace, but left me in the dust.
Set in the smoked filled rooms of a local newspaper, Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell) walks into the... Read Full Story
WHAM's "succulent goodness" practically sells itself.
The 1948 film “ Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House ,” is notable for two things:
The debonair Cary Grant plays a pitchman for a SPAM knock-off product.
It presents one of Hollywood’s most balanced appraisals of the advertising industry.
Grant is Jim Blandings, a Madison Avenue bigwig tired of living in New York City. He ditches his cramped apartment to purchase prime Connecticut real estate for his family. Hilarity ensues... Read Full Story

Cary Grant was born Archibald Alexander Leach in Horfield, Bristol back in 1904. He grew up in a middle class family and was considered to have a fairly average childhood. While he would not learn about it until he reached his twenties, his mother was institutionalized when he was 9 for a mental illness. By the time he turned 14, he decided to leave his home and school, faked his age and father’s signature and joined Bob Pender’s comedic troupe.
He was able to learn many... Read Full Story
