Many people especially as they get older start to suffer from night sweating. This type of sweating is uncomfortable as it can cause you to wake up and makes it difficult to fall asleep again. There are multiple causes of night sweats and things that you can do about it. The room is too hot. - This one seems a bit obvious but it might be good to keep the room slightly cooler than what you are comfortable with when you fall asleep to reduce sweating at night. Menopause - Changes in the body during menopause can cause extra sweating at night. This is a result of hormonal changes. Lack of water - A dehydrated body is going to be a bit warmer than a body that's properly hydrated. Getting more water can help cool the body especially at night. Mild to severe sickness - Night sweating can be caused by sickness. If the sweating has happened suddenly and recently, then it might be a sign of a sickness. This type of sweating can be a sign of a serious problem and one should seek out a doctor. Mattress absorbs too much heat - When the body is hot at night, most of the time the heat is absorbed by the mattress. This is why the first three or more hours of sleep you sleep fine and aren't too hot and sweaty. Weight gain - Gaining extra weight can mean that you are warmer than you used to be. If your pillow is not very breathable, that can mean that your body is going to retain more heat from the top of your head. A more breathable pillow will allow more body heat to escape better. Eating spicy foods and drinking alcohol before bed - Spicy food and alcohol can significantly increase internal body temperatures. Many times things like alcohol are drunk the most before going to bed. The body's heat is still very high when going to bed which can cause extra night sweating. There are ways of reducing night sweating. It's a good idea to get plenty of water before bed. A cold shower can help reduce the body's temperature and make one feel much cooler before sleeping. There are also methods that can treat the reason that someone excessively sweats which will help reduce night sweating.
