Golden Globes: who will win and who should win. Part 1 Movies

So I have done my research, checked the latest odds and picked a few brains, and have come up with my comprehensive list of predictions for the winners of this year’s Golden Globe awards. However, who I think will win, and who should win are always a different kettle of fish, added some special smilies to indicate who will win the awards in each category.

smile =Winner

biggrin = Should win and will win

sad = Should win but won’t

Best motion picture – drama:
“The King’s Speech” :)
“Black Swan”
“The Fighter”
“Inception”
“The Social Network” :(
The highbrows who vote for awards seem to love costume dramas about people over-coming adversity, and The King’s Speech checks all the boxes. The Social Network of course was the best film of 2010, but the oldies who vote for the Globes will probably not have even heard of Facebook, let alone vote for a film about the creation of a website.

Best performance by an actress in a motion picture – drama:
Halle Berry, “Frankie and Alice”
Nicole Kidman, “Rabbit Hole”
Jennifer Lawrence, “Winter’s Bone”
Natalie Portman, “Black Swan” :D
Michelle Williams, “Blue Valentine”

Portman is the golden girl of Hollywood, she is talented, gorgeous and deserves to be rewarded for this and the large majority of her past work. Also, I am sure the voters will be scared to vote for Halle Berry in fear she might make another Catwoman!

Best performance by an actor in a motion picture – drama:
Jesse Eisenberg, “The Social Network” :(
Colin Firth, “The King’s Speech”
James Franco, “127 Hours” :)
Ryan Gosling, “Blue Valentine”
Mark Wahlberg, “The Fighter”

James will probably win this, after all he put in a stellar performance in this film about a guy trapped in a rock for a few days. Eisenberg also probably deserves this award, but the Facebook angle will have voters looking towards the guy in the rock!

Best motion picture – musical or comedy:
“Alice in Wonderland”
“Burlesque”
“The Kids Are All Right” :D
“RED”
“The Tourist”

Probably the easiest pick of the lot, a great film that fills all the criteria for an award winner. The cast is packed with past winners and it is about lesbians raising a baby so the voters can feel like they are being politically correct. Also it is a damned fine film!

Best performance by an actress in a motion picture – musical or comedy:
Annette Bening, “The Kids Are All Right”
Julianne Moore, “The Kids Are All Right” :D
Anne Hathaway, “Love & Other Drugs”
Angelina Jolie, “The Tourist”
Emma Stone, “Easy A”

Julianne Moore is another award favourite, and she will get this as the voters know she will probably miss out on the Oscar nod.

Best performance by an actor in a motion picture – musical or comedy:
Johnny Depp, “Alice in Wonderland”
Johnny Depp, “The Tourist”
Paul Giamatti, “Barney’s Version”
Jake Gyllenhaal, “Love and Other Drugs”
Kevin Spacey, “Casino Jack” :D

Johnny Depp is a fantastic actor, but both Alice in Wonderland and The Tourist are at best average films. Kevin Spacey on the other hand not only puts in a stellar performance, but also is in an excellent film.

Best animated film:
“Toy Story 3” :D
“The Illusionist”
“How to Train Your Dragon”
“Despicable Me”
“Tangled”

Probably the best sequel ever made, and the guys at Pixar deserve every award going in the world of animation.
