How to Take Huge Panoramic Photos on the Droid X
One of the coolest and most unique features of the Motorola DROID X is its Panorama assist picture mode for shooting wide panoramic photographs. The DROID X has an 8-megapixel camera that is great for shooting single-frame shots. In panorama assist mode, however, the maximum resolution is 3 megapixels. In practice, the resulting shots seem just fine at this resolution.
- Launch the camera by either selecting it from the application menu or holding down the camera button.
- Once the camera has loaded, hit the hardware Menu button.
- Tap on Picture modes.
- Tap Panorama assist on the resulting popup menu.
- Choose whether you want to Move up, Move right, Move left or Move down.
- Once panorama assist is set, aim the camera at the start of your desired image (for example, with Move right, you’ll want to point the camera at the far left of your subject).
- Press the camera button.
- This is where it can get kind of confusing. After the initial shot, you won’t need to manually press the camera button anymore. The phone does the snapping for you.
- After the initial shot, simply move the phone slowly in the direction you selected, keeping your eye on the lower-left corner of the screen
- When the little “arrow box” reaches the “next shot” box, the indicator will turn green and the camera will snap the next picture.
- Continue on like this until the phone has snapped all six pictures.
When all the images have been captured, you will see the message “Stitching captures”. Once the stitching is complete, you will be left with an awesome 180-degree panoramic shot.
