The Era of Ringtones

ringtonesRingtones first became popular in the mid-90s when Japan introduced the first mobile telephone featuring a custom melody. Immediately, the attention of every cell phone owner on the planet was captured. Everyone one Earth suddenly obtaining your own personalized ringtones became a dire necessity. The success of the ringtones of yesteryear has brought forth the development of the specialized ringtones we all know and love today.

Ringtones are now available in one of three formats including truetone, polyphonic and monophonic. The most advanced ringtones are the truetones, which are now compatible with most phones on the current market.

In the beginning, monophonic tones ruled the universe. Then, advances in ringer technology brought about a time for the polyphonic tone to shine. This type of ringtone is able to play multiple music notes at the same time, providing better quality. Many phones began to come from the manufacturer with a selection of ringtones already installed on the device.

The introduction of truetones has all but done away with both monophonic and polyphonic ringtones. Since the public was already familiar with the technology, implementing a new form of ringer was simple. Customers can customize their ringtone to be any number of songs and other sounds that are truly unique. When you set your ringtone to something that accurately represents you as an individual, you will never again be one of those people who check their phone every time someone’s phone rings in a crowd.
