Vogue Italia July 2008: Black Models Issue Preview
Credit: New York Times
We do remember the speculations that the July issue of Italian Vogue will have only black models, and all the features about black women in the arts and entertainment. These speculations turned out to be true, as Cathy Horyn from New York Times has a story in today’s paper with details on upcoming issue, interviews with people who worked on this project and some pictures.
Italian Vogue July issue has 100 pages of Chanel Iman, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Jourdan Dunn, Liya Kebede, Alek Wek, Pat Cleveland and Karen Alexander’s pictures shot by Steven Meisel.
We think that it’s a work that really worth of respect, as upcoming issue is all about showing beauty and soul of black models, it’s against discrimination and stereotyping them.
“Laziness, paranoia and pedantry may also have something to do with the failure to hire black models for shows and magazine features in any meaningful number, but, hey, that’s just a guess,” wrote Cathy Horyn in her story for NY Times.
