Hello,
Having a bit of time on my hands between defending my plants from marauding Orangemen or rather their simple minded followers -the Orangemen being in my experience a well behaved bunch (more of which in another post), I've been out on one of my internet strolls.
I was particularly taken with a recent post by David Duff regarding 'Mercy Ships' which I strongly urge you all to read and follow the links from. True Christianity and all that is good in people in action. Unlike David Duff I am one of life's sentimentalists, so by the time I'd got halfway through his post I was bawling and close to hysteria by the time I got to the volunteers blogs. For those of you wondering what on earth I'm babbling about Mercy Ships dock in the hellholes of the world and on an unpaid, entirely voluntary basis provide desperately needed medical assistance to the poorest people in the world. If you have a quid or two spare please send it their way. If not beg steal or borrow some cash and donate it to Mercy Ships. Not least because of the medical assistance they provide but for their work in teaching valuable skills and providing valuable tools and equipment to the populations they help.
I should also point out that as all their money goes to the important work they don't have much to spend on the publicity they need to attract proper funds. Whilst Saatchi & Saatchi have agreed to do some pro bono work to promote them, they need all the publicity they can get, therefore I'm asking any bloggers reading to make a space in their sidebars for a link to Mercy Ships. I really cannot put into words my admiration for this fine band of volunteers.
