It didn't take a lot of explaining from Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz. In fact, he said all that needs to be said about the Lions anemic run game in just a few words. Detroit Free Press, Nov. 30: "It's...

When the 1-8 Cleveland Brown rolled into Detroit to face the 1-8 Lions, not much was expected from a game that was locally blacked out.  Wow, how we all wish we had players like Brady Quinn and Matthew Stafford on our fantasy teams after this one. In a match up that consisted of two of the worst teams in the NFL for the past decade, it was dubbed a game of losers.  But from the first few minutes we all learned really what these two teams had...

John Niyo of the Detroit News reported today following Jim Schwartz' Monday presser that quarterback Matthew Stafford has suffered an AC joint sprain (separation). If someone didn't see the play (thanks to a state-wide blackout), I highly suggest a trip over to NFL.com to see the replays. If you haven't even heard of what happened, I highly suggest coming out from the rock you're living under. Stafford, on the second-to-last play, scrambled...

OK, so you're upset. Your team just lost to the winless Rams, which is inexcusable. I get it. I really do. What I do not get, however, is the reason Matthew Stafford is the point of that criticism.  He went 14-of-33 for 168 yards with one pick.  Those are not good numbers, but what did you expect?  He barely practiced and his receiving corps looked to be made of butter.  I counted about seven dropped passes, with most coming on third down...

There's no good news this week. As Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said, "You'll have a hard time finding the silver lining in this one." Wait, check that. The only good news is that the Lions didn't play the New England Patriots this week. Apparently shutouts come in much more humiliating packages. Still, that's little consolation in a game where the Lions were shut out for the first time since 2001, and against an average defense. For every...

William Clay Ford has done enough. Is so many ways, Ford has done enough for Detroit Lions fans. Since he became sole owner of the Lions in 1964, the franchise has only had four seasons with 10 or more wins. Since 1964, the Detroit Lions have not won a championship, either. The Lions have only made the playoffs in nine of the 45 years (20 percent) of Ford's ownership. The Lions have seen the careers of Barry Sanders, Barry Sims, Johnny Morton...

To Pettigrew or not to Pettigrew, that is the question. Some Detroit Lions fans are still bitter about the team's second pick in the first round – tight end Brandon Pettigrew. Mississippi tackle Michael Oher was available, and was a bigger need position.

Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz wasn't about to tip his hand about the recovery of quarterback Matt Stafford. Stafford wasn't much more forthcoming himself as the Lions returned to practice Tuesday after their bye week. The rookie quarterback has missed the last two games with a knee injury, and with backup Daunte Culpepper (hamstring) also at less than 100 percent, Schwartz is going to make the St. Louis Rams try to prepare for Stafford...

(SkyNewswire.com)--- Coach Jim Schwartz declines to discuss injuries during the season. But apparently it isn't because he broke into the NFL under Bill Belichick. It's because of how he used information against opponents as Tennessee's defensive coordinator. "I could click on every coach's press conference on Monday, and I would sit there with my notepad, and I would start my game plan," Schwartz said. "I don't know how many times I caught...

Watching the new Lions coach Jim Schwartz dodge and weave at his weekly press conference tells me a lot about the culture of incompetence and perpetual "wimp-hood" of those types who have been employed by Bill Ford Sr. over his 45-plus years of ownership of the Detroit Lions. Schwartz unleashed a barrage of excuses, rationalizations, and what ifs, while kicking the can down the road of some imagined future. When asked about the obvious...
