The search committee believes that an avalanche is to blame for
Fowler's death. They fear that his climbing partner Chris may have also
been a victim of the avalanche. Search efforts continue.

Fowler was presumably killed in an avalanche. Though Boskoff wasn't
located Thursday, the Fowler-Boskoff Search Committee said she could
have been caught in the avalanche as well.
"We kind of got the wind knocked out of our sails. The two weeks of
hope and adrenaline we've been running on all of the sudden caught up
with us," Arlene Burns, a Telluride-based committee member said.
She and other committee members have spent the past few weeks working
virtually around the clock to coordinate ground efforts in China,
including finances and communication with U.S. and Chinese authorities.
"The next step is to look for Chris in the general area. We certainly
think that Chris was most likely swept up in the same avalanche and is
in the snow. The searchers will make a thorough search of the whole
area in hopes of finding a trace," Burns said.
At last report, snow was falling in the Genyen region, which Burns said could affect continued search efforts.
