Charlie Palmer Steak, Capitol Hill, DC


Charlie Palmer Steak is one of my favorite steak houses in the city. Unlike the other great steak restaurants in town, CP Steak has a very modern, chic ambiance rather than the dark, wood paneled walls of its peers.

The food at CP Steak is fantastic and as many times as I've eaten there, I've always had great service. Dinner prices are a bit steep with most entrees priced above $30 -- the filet is $36 or you can go all out and have Kobe beef at $20 per ounce. However, CP Steak has one of the best lunch deals in town, essentially offering a $20 Restaurant Week lunch every day all year. For appetizers, I love the Tuna Tartar -- hand cut yellow fin tuna, avocado, soy and lime emulsion, with sesame flat bread. The Butter Poached Prawns over risotto are another great starter choice. For entrees, I prefer the steak offering, which varies throughout the year, but is typically a petite tenderloin. The Prix Fixe lunch is rounded out with a dessert choice, my favorite of which is the chocolate mousse.



Of equal importance to the food at any restaurant is its service staff. The waiters in the restaurant are great, but I think the bar staff of Brad, Heather, and Ivan at CP Steak are the best team in the city. Thursday and Friday nights at the bar can be packed, but there's no better place for a two martini prix fixe lunch than at the bar at CP Steak!
