Is Charlie Whitehurst Ready for the Starting Job?

Charlie Whitehurst is getting plenty of hype these days with people wondering if he’s ready to take over the starting QB job with the Seattle Seahawks. If Saturday’s preseason game is any indication, he may be… or he may not be. He was brilliant at times, and horrible. There seemed to be no in between.

He completed, “six of his first seven on a touchdown drive against the Packers” Saturday night. He threw three touchdowns and three interceptions. The up and down nature of his game makes it seem as if he is definitely not ready to take the lead. And yet Matt Hasslebeck is 35 and not Brett Favre. How long does he have? Who knows. Will it allow Charlie Whitehurst to mature enough to take over with consistency? Seattle fans have to be hoping yes.

An interesting side note, of course, is that Charlie is the son of David Whitehurst, who was the Packers quarterback in the late 70s and early 80s.
