The Deadliest Combination: Guns, Liquor and ...Charlton Heston

And we're addicted to all three! No Moses didn't die, but some people will weep as if he did. Charlton Heston was a very fine actor who backed some worthy causes (Civil Rights) and some unworthy causes (the NRA). Some people began to think that, later in life, Heston came to see himself as more of a Moses of the middle-lass white man. This is what he had to say: "...the God fearing, law-abiding, Caucasian, middle- class Protestant-or even worse, evangelical Christian, Midwestern or Southern... Read Full Story

CHARLTON HESTON’S GREATEST MOVIES

Now we all know Charlton Heston kicked the bucket more than a week ago, so let’s have a moment of silence for him…………………..Okay, enough of that. Now, I’m not the biggest Heston fan, but some of the movies he starred in are my favorites, and I just want to list a few of him here. BEN-HUR Remember when the American Movie Channel used to air this movie 50 million times around the Xmas holidays? I didn’t have a problem with that, I’d rather see this movie than It’s a Wonderful Life over... Read Full Story

Film legend & defender of civil rights and the Constitution, Charlton Heston dies at 84 ...

Screen legend. Defender of civil rights & the Constitution. Incredible voice. A legend has died. Charlton Heston played many roles. Even in bad movies like Earthquake, you watched him BECAUSE he was Charlton Heston & somehow he overcame the badness. His videos on the history of the Bible made you feel that you went back in time & he made it feel real & alive. He defended the civil rights of blacks, the rights of gun owners ( for which he was unfairly vilified in the most scurrilous manner... Read Full Story

Charlton Heston, A Brilliance Lost

We lost a great American when we lost Charlton Heston this week. He was a treasure both on screen and with his passionate causes. He promoted messages that were tough to tackle with grace and intellectual brilliance. His work as the president of the National Rifle Association helped grow the organization immensely and showed non-hunters like me that their causes are more than worthy. I wanted to share a speech of his and was torn between three. His NRA speech at Harvard, his speech from... Read Full Story

Ben-Hur

Ben-Hur , 1925 incarnation, is an enjoyable adventure film, somewhat overburdened by a sense of dutiful religiosity and a letdown after its climactic chariot race. That race, however, is still exciting 80 years later and many of its moments equal those of the more famous remake. One shot in particular, of the horses' hooves pounding into the camera from a low angle, is as dynamic as anything I can recall from the 1959 Ben-Hur . Indeed, given the limitations (read, frequent strengths) of... Read Full Story

My Favorite Charlton Heston Movie

Image from Wikipedia So, Charlton Heston died. That's sad. Whatever your politics about guns and what all the NRA stands for, you gotta admit that the dude had some kick butt roles in his film days. He parted the Red Sea as Moses, he was the Omega Man (the original screen adaptation of I Am Legend - I think he overacted a bit and it was kind of campy, but I still liked it). But, his most awesome, kicking, rocking, spectacular movie of all time is Planet of the Apes . I bet he is rolling his... Read Full Story

What the Hell is Wrong with the World?

You know, I thought I had seen it all: a black guy running for President, a woman running for runner-up for President, science run amok, and religion ridiculed by having it relegated to church on Sunday and not in the science classroom where it belongs. But I never thought I would live to see the day when the NRA banned guns. During the recent American Leadership Values Forum held by the National Rifle Association in Louisville, Kentucky, guns were banned from the shindig . And why? All... Read Full Story
