Chaz Bono was born Chastity Bono, and just completed gender reassignment surgery to become a man. The 40-year-old said he had always felt male, and now enjoys the life he has long-thought he should be living.

He has been dating Jennifer Elia for 4 years, and is happy that they now really have the heterosexual relationship they've felt from the beginning, but never had physically. He talked about his girlfriend's complete support in an interview he did with Entertainment Tonight (via People magazine): "She's been amazing. I feel really grateful to be going through this with a partner," he said.

Chaz also said he and Jennifer had talked about the idea of the surgery long before it happened. "I didn't just spring this on Jennifer recently," he said. "This was something she knew about shortly after we met."

It seems like the couple couldn't be happier now, "I feel like I'm living in my body for the first time, and it feels really good," he said.

Cher said she was in favor of the gender reassignment surgery as well, "The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child," she said to People this summer.
