Texas Cheerleaders Scandal - Michaela Ward is Fab Five Texas Cheerleaders’ Coach ???

Meet Michaela Ward, the former Fab Five Texas Cheerleader coach. See photos, video and a biography of Michaela below.

Michaela Ward

Michaela Ward, the former cheerleader coach at McKinney North High School in McKinney, Texas, sold her story to Lifetime and the movie, “Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal“, premiered Saturday night.

Michaela Ward
The film is loosely based on the 2006 cheerleader scandal in which Ward resigned from her position as the cheerleading coach because school administrators did not allow her to discipline a group of cheerleading seniors known as the “fab five”, one of which was the principal’s daughter. Racy photos emerged online of the cheerleaders posing at a condom store holding “phallus shaped candles” and the girls were continuously talking back to teachers and breaking dress code. Ward eventually put her foot down, resigned and spoke out on what was going on at the school.

She spoke about the film with local news station WFAA:

“About half is true, a quarter exaggerated and another quarter is completely made up,” she said.

Michaela Ward Biography

I have just watched Lifetime's movie account of the Texas "Fab Five." I realize that the movie was, in part, sensationalized, but felt overall it was a very good movie and presented a variety of points. Having taught school, I realize that their are students who are "in charge" and parents that are not. In short, parents who fail to parent. At any rate, I wish to applaud Ms. Ward's efforts and her decision to stand up for what was right. I also feel the need to defend her, as Mr. Jones' report ( I just read it online) placed some fault on her. The simple truth is that she was not supported by administration. She tried to do her best with an impossible situation. Older and "wiser" teachers/ coaches had long since thrown up their hands fearing for their jobs. What she did took sheer guts and showed great strength. As a teacher, you are expected to go through a "chain of command." This is the very thing that fialed her and I feel that speaking to the press was the only thing that brought any resolve to this situation. She is a true hero and should be commended for her efforts. I would be thrilled to work with her in a school. Way to go MW!
