In celebration of its 50th year, the IIHS crashed a 2009 Chevy Malibu into a 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air to show the world just how far cars have come in safety, thanks, of course, to the safety regulations that the institute helped implement. The results of the crash test are staggering. According to the IIHS, the driver of the Bel Air would've died instantly, whereas the driver of the Malibu would've suffered light leg and foot injuries.
