Chevy Volt

Earlier this month GM announced "Chevrolet Wi-Fi" by Autonet Mobile as an option on seven Chevy vehicles including the Silverado pickup. Weirdly, despite the Chevy Volt being, like, the most technologically-advanced vehicle ever built, it won't get the option. The dealer-installed system, which we used for connectivity at last year's Detroit Auto Show on our Jalopnik-built GEM Electric staff car, connects to the wireless 3G network and...  

In this latest promotional video from GM, Andrew Farah, vehicle chief engineer for the Volt, took the EV for a quick lap around the parking lot in Dodger Stadium. And by 'quick lap' we don't mean any tire smoking (or at least not the kind you may get excited about), opposite steering antics - don't forget, this is the Chevrolet Volt electric-vehicle we're talking about... General Motors will invest $336 million in the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant to begin production of the Chevrolet Volt electric car, with extended-range capabilities, in 2010.

It wasn’t bad enough that someone in the General Motors marketing department, or its advertising agency, came up with a catchy song for the Chevrolet Volt. No, they had to come with a dance for the Chevrolet Volt. Think of the worst reject from that ridiculous So You Think You Can Dance? show and then multiply [...]  

For some reason (and I truly don't know why) this reminds me of AutoWorld and "Roger & Me." Maybe because it truly is so hysterically bad it reminds me of vintage, bad GM marketing efforts. You can almost hear some 60-year-old marketing exec saying, "Hey, let's create one of those 'jiggy' dances to lure the kids!"  

GM, we need to talk. Your new cars are good, you've got interesting tech features and your quality's competitive. Crap like this Chevy Volt dance undermines all your efforts. We're not laughing with you, we're laughing at you. First there was the Chevy Volt song, an embarrassingly stupid, hipsterish non-jingle which left everyone who heard it wondering where they could get a refund on the government bailout they paid for with their taxes...

GM is so excited about its upcoming Chevy Volt electric car that they even created a song for it called "Chevy Volt and Me." A Chevy Volt song and dance routine was reportedly performed every hour at the L.A. show. The guy performing the head stands and head spins must have been exhausted and dizzy by the end of the day.
