Rossum Trade Cost Philip’s Roster Spot

Ed Bouchette’s most recent chat is a typical Bouchette chat. He’s a little bit cantankerous, a little bit informative and very entertaining.

The news that came out of this week’s chat is pretty interesting. Marvin Philip lost his roster spot when the Steelers decided to trade for Allen Rossum. Philip originally was on the roster, but when Mike Tomlin decided he wasn’t comfortable with Willie Reid returning punts and kicks, the Steelers swung a trade and Philip ended up on the practice squad.

And like many things, it also had a domino effect. Because Philip ended up on the practice squad, the Steelers decided to leave Jason Capizzi off of the practice squad. So in a way we can blame Willie Reid’s bobbles for leaving Capizzi off of the practice squad.

Bouchette’s other nuggets include his belief that Chidi Iwuoma is not as good a special teams ace as he used to be and his puzzlement at the Rossum trade since Santonio Holmes could handle the job.
