Cavans Trip to George Best Belfast City Airport

The Cavan Tommy Hoey Trust (Ireland) would like to thank all the staff and management at George Best Belfast City Airport in giving our grandson Cavan such a memorable time, as Cavan has been in hospital for such a long time with XLP,EBVHLH,his only experience of a two tone horn was an ambulance either rushing Cavan to hospital or hearing them while in hospital. My own experience with this was when Cavan was visiting us and had a seizure while at Helens Bay, he was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital for sick children. again on our way back to our car after his visit to Belfast City Hall, an ambulance passed and he talked about it all the way home he was so worried for the person who was inside it.

We were so pleased with the crew from the Fire Station at the airport, they spent so much time with Cavan showing him all around the Fire Station and letting him have a drive in the big yellow fire engine, I do not think they realised just how much good they were doing him. As I said earlier his only experience of a two tone horn was the ambulance rushing him to hospital, but when the fireman took cavan a drive in the fire engine and sounded the two tone horns for him his little face lit up with a big smile one that we have not seen for over a year while he has been fighting his rare diseases XLP,EBVHLH. The fireman then showed him it shooting the water from the front and top of the fire engine, all this helped this little boy so much, the photo of cavan and the fireman will stay on our site for good as a special thank you to him for making Cavan's day so special it was something he will never forget.

The visit did not end there, the fire chief and his crew then showed Cavan around the fire station,I think Cavan's favourite bit was the Pole, they slide down he even dared one of the firemen to slide down it. He was then taken around the Control tower to let him experience the planes landing and taking off, his day was then complete. Thank you George Best Belfast City Airport staff and managment for your kindness and care and be so willing to help little boys like Cavan,We cannot express our thanks enough to the aiport for giving him such a great day.

Cavan had a great time while on his visit to Belfast, people have been so kind and caring the people who arranged his visits and the people who made him feel special at his coffee morning we could never thank you enough we would like to show our appreciation by saying thanks to:
