Search for Missing Girl

CHELSEA, Vt. - The uncle of a missing 12-year-old girl — one of the last to see her before she vanished — pleaded not guilty Monday in what police called unrelated sex assaults on another underage girl, who told them the man was involved in a child sex ring.

Michael Jacques, 42, of Randolph, a registered sex offender, pleaded not guilty to aggravated sexual assault and was being held on $250,000 bail while police searched his home for clues in the disappearance of Brooke Bennett.

This is a very dark subject for everyone, but it is one that should of been avoided in this situation. If you are a parent then why, under any circumstance would you let your child associate with a known sex offender? I'm sorry, my heart does go out to the missing girl and her family, but the lack of common sense is heart wrenching. Second are parents now a days so tied up with there own lives that they can't put forth a little effort on monitoring what their children are doing? Especially on the internet.

It's been proven over and over that pedophiles are using the internet as their main source of communication to children. So if you have a child that is on the internet why aren't you helping the child understand that they have to be extremely careful and monitor their actions while they are on the internet?

This is just my personal opinion on the subject, I believe that parents need to step up and start taking a little more responsibility for their children and their lives. If the parents would have been more involved in the child's life this whole situation probably would have been avoided.

Is monitoring your children's activity on the internet an invasion of privacy? Well, let me ask you this, when your child comes up missing or even worse..... Are you still going to think that it's an invasion of privacy when you knew there are ways to prevent this kind of thing from happening? Is it not the parents responsibility to protect and teach their children on how to be safe?
