I believe that a scuffed baseball is actually an advantage for the pitchers. If they are smart they can make it move a lot. The Umps use to examine the ball but now it is just automatic, making it fair for both teams. Ground balls that have a lot of top spin wont scuff as easily as pitches in the dirt. That's why pitchers use to get in trouble for "scuffing" the balls and raising the seams because of the advantage it gave them. I don't think...

Never gonna happen. O'Dowd still has nightmares about the terrible Neagle and Hampton contracts (that he gave them). It forever scared him away from ever signing a free agent pitcher to a deal longer than 2 years. The problem is, no free agent pitcher worth anything will sign for less than 3 years, which immediately excludes the Rockies from their list. Colorado's Wilin Rosario answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-run home run, his third long ball of the season. Those were the last runs Mike Minor allowed in the game as he left after five innings and eight runs allowed.  

The Pirates were poised for a really big inning when Hanson walked Pedro Alvarez and Casey McGehee to load the bases with one out, but Rod Barajas grounded into a double play. "We need one hit," manager Clint Hurdle said. "We need a knockout punch.
