Asian Tour has bright future: top official

Asia's golfing future looks bright with the emergence of an exciting new crop of young talents, Asian Tour executive chairman Kyi Hla Han said Tuesday.

Han was delighted to see India's 21-year-old Gaganjeet Bhullar come through for his maiden victory at the Indonesia President Invitational last month.

Meanwhile Thailand's 20-year-old Kiradech Aphibarnrat unleashed his massive potential with a runner-up finish at last week's Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters.

With Wu Ashu and Su Dong of China, Indonesia's Rory Hie, India's Anirban Lahiri and Thailand's Chinnarat Phadungsil among a crop of new talent, Han expects the young guns to soon regularly challenge the more established stars.

"It's really exciting to see so many young players making a name for themselves on the Asian Tour," said Han, himself a former Asian number one.

"There is a big group of talented players who are in their early 20s and with the numerous opportunities to compete at the highest level across the region, they are maturing quickly into top-class players."
