Bobby Cox has been around a while... a long, long while. Long enough to enjoy 2,000 major league victories with the Atlanta Braves . Apparently, he wasn't impressed with the milestone, as he claims he can barely remember the first nine innings. That comes with age. The 15-inning, 7-6 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates , which lasted almost five hours, actually marked career win #2,355 for Cox, spanning 24 managerial seasons with Atlanta, including a brief four-year stint with Toronto in the early 80s. He's no Earl Weaver , but he's got to be one of the orneriest skippers ever. Cox is ranked fourth ... Read Full Story

Chipper Jones was held out of the Atlanta Braves' starting lineup a day after straining his right groin in a game against the Chicago Cubs. Jones said Tuesday night that he felt pain when he ran out of the batter's box after singling in the fourth inning Monday night. He scored and played the rest of the game. The 37-year-old third baseman said he will miss no more than one or two games. Jones is batting .292 with nine home runs and 40 RBIs. The Braves are 5-8 in games he has not started. Martin Prado shifted from second base to third and batted ... Read Full Story

Little did I know at the tender age of 13 -- the year I fell madly in love with Chipper Jones ' switch-hitting swing -- I would be lucky enough to see him earn his first batting title, 14 years later. Hot. After walking on a pinch hit in his only at-bat against the Houston Astros on Sunday, Chipper nabbed the National League batting title, edging St. Louis Cardinals ’ slugger Albert Pujols . Again. Hot. The Atlanta Braves third baseman finished the 2008 season batting .364, marking the highest average for an NL batting champion since Barry Bonds hit .370 in 2002. As ... Read Full Story

After a freak batting cage accident in which Chipper Jones ricocheted a foul ball off a metal bar and straight back into his beautiful face, leaving him with a shiner, he was ready to play the very next day. Yep, he almost poked an eye out, yet he's totally prepared to resume chasing Ted Williams ' illustrious 1941 season. Tough as nails, I tell ya. The Atlanta Braves hot corner was back in the lineup Saturday, going 0-for-3 with an RBI and 2 walks, bringing his big league-best batting average to .409. In other Braves news, Tom Glavine will be sidelined until at least ... Read Full Story

I love playing GM for professional sports, especially baseball. I always have, and I probably always will.  Building my own team with my kind of personnel, and my type of players gets me excited. I just did an article for the Rays, so I'll enter a shameless plug here . However, I'll stop at two teams: my Rays and my Braves. The spots in question are: an extra starting pitcher, a closer, an outfield spot, and first base. The Braves have a good...

This has to be my favorite time of year. The beautiful leaves have fallen. The air is getting much cooler. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Gone is summer—the long days, the starry nights. College Football Bowl season is so close we can taste it, NCAA Basketball holiday tournaments are getting ready to begin, and Hot Stove League baseball is in hyper mode. The latter of that trio is one of my favorite aspects of the great sport of...

by Frankie PiliereFiled under: Braves, Red Sox, Yankees, MLB Inside Scoop, Scout's Eye ViewOn the free-agent market, all the focus has been on John Lackey. On the trade market, the talk has been about Roy Halladay. The consolation prize for teams seeking a top-flight arm may come out of Atlanta. The Braves have two of their top starters on the block, Derek Lowe and Javier Vazquez, and there's little doubt that at least one of those two...
