Chita Rivera:The League of Professional Theatre Women presents its 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors women exhibiting exemplary service to the theatre, to two-time Tony Award®-winning actress/singer/dancer Chita Rivera. The award will be presented by her daughter, singer/dancer/choreographer Lisa Mordente, at the League’s December 2010 Awards Luncheon.
Angela Lansbury, Carol Channing and Chita Rivera performed at the Kennedy Center Honors. Broadcast tonight, five individuals honored from the performing arts are Merle Haggard, Paul McCartney, Oprah Winfrey, Bill T. Jones, and Jerry Herman.
If you were looking for a show stopper, the performance by three well known legends was the moment to be waiting for. Angela, Carol and Chita came out on stage and definitely gave everyone a show they will never forget. The tribute to the honorees, who were watching above, definitely wasn’t for the faint of heart.

The previously announced recipients of The Lee Reynolds Award and The Josephine Abady Award will also be honored at the December 9th luncheon. The Lee Reynolds Award is given annually to a woman or women active in any aspect of theatre whose work for, in, about, or through the medium of theatre has helped to illuminate the possibilities for social, cultural, or political change. The 2010 Lee Reynolds Award will be presented to Lynn Nottage, Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatist, a 2007 MacArthur Fellow, and the recipient of the 2010 Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award. To honor the memory of member Josephine Abady, the LPTW presents an annual award to an early- or mid-career director or producer of a work of cultural diversity. The 2010 Josephine Abady Award will be presented to Kamilah Forbes, artistic director of the annual three-week Hip-Hop Theatre Festival.
Kate Whoriskey presented Nottage with the 2010 Lee Reynolds Award, given annually to a woman or women active in any aspect of theater whose work for, in, about, or through the medium of theater has helped to illuminate the possibilities for social, cultural, or political change.
Rivera’s daughter, Lisa Mordente, presented the Tony Award-winning actress with the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors women exhibiting exemplary service to the theater.
The evening will offer highlight moments from past galas and will feature prominent artists from America’s greatest dance companies along with Broadway’s show-stopping numbers and stars. The evening will be produced and directed by Ann Marie DeAngelo.
In addition to Chita, those currently scheduled to entertain are Marvin Hamlisch, Bebe Neuwirth, Ann Reinking, Karen Ziemba, Charlotte d’Amboise and Edward Villella as well as artists from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, The Joffrey Ballet, MOMIX, National Dance Institute and Parsons Dance.
