What is a good way to lower your bad cholesterol and increase your good cholesterol?Eat Cheerios and Oatmeal. At least according to their commercials.Cheerios.My mom had a cholesterol problem and her doctor told her to eat real oatmeal every day.Walking is very good for you. I have a German Shepherd I walk everyday. The doctor told me that if I didnt walk him the two miles that I do everyday, my good cholesterol wouldnt of been so high, thats what really saved me! I make it a point now to walk with him every day, even if I cant walk two miles, I walk at least one. High cholesterol runs in my family, so I know I better do something to help. Hope Ive helped some!Everyone is obsessed with oatmeal!
You need to lower your dietary intake of saturated fat and increase your intake of healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats. So you are looking at avocadoes, oily fish such as tuna, small helpings of unsalted raw nuts, seeds like pumpkin and sunflower. Oh yes and also keep up your fibre intake with a huge range of fruit and vegetables, a variety of grains (such as oats). Rye is good too, don’t just rely on wholegrain wheat for your fibre. Watch your intake of full-fat dairy and too much red meat.
Sometimes with the healthiest diet in the world, your “bad” cholesterol may stay high, blame your parents and listen to your doctor’s advice re medication etc.An hour a day of vigorous cardio exercise, and a low fat diet.
In 5 months I took my LDL/HDL from 137/37 to 87/57, and a year later to 64/44. All ratios od 1.6 : 1.The first step is eating healthy and beginning an exercise regimen. Many people may need medications if these measures do not work. Statins are the preferred class of medications for lowering bad cholesterol. Niacin will lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol, but tends to have worse side effects.First of all there is no such thing as good and bad cholesterol. Cholesterol is ONE SUBSTANCE. There are NOT 2 types.
HDL and LDL are LIPOPROTEINS and neither one ofthem are good or bad. They are both very important.
The scientific CHICANERY of Ancel Keys started this whole cholesterol/CHD myth.
See this video for documented proof of the fiasco that went down

Cholesterol Theory proponents enthusiasm fades fast when the VOLUMES of cultures who eat a diet high in saturated fat and / or have elevated cholesterol levels and very low to NO CHD
Take the Tokeluans of the Pacific Islands who have cholesterol levels of 240mg/dl- 300mg/dl and were documented by scientists to have NO coronary artery disease
Look it up here:
Prior IA et al . Cholesterol coconuts and diets on polynesian atolls: a natural experiment; the Pukapukans and Tokeluan island studies. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1981 Aug ; 34 (8) 1552-1561
Maasai Dinkas Samburu Swiss Tokeluans Inuits all “paradoxes” They are not paradoxes at all.
Most importantly there are 18 clinical dietary intervention trials to date NONE have shown any increase in CHD mortality or incidence from saturated fat ingestion.
Look up the Women’s Health Initative 2006 one of them

Secondly, the ONLY controlled clinical trial examining the claim that increased cereal fiber intake reduces CHD is the diet and reinfaction trial (DART) 1989
Participants who increased their cereal fiber intake through wholemeal bread and high fiber breakfast cereals SUFFERED THE HIGHEST DEATH RATE IN THE STUDY
The fact that DART the ONLY clinical trial ever conducted to examine the claim that increased cereal fiber intake helps prevent CHD COMPLETELY FAILS TO SUPPORT the theory is of little deterence to dietitians and health authorities who regulalrly make just such a claim
Ally , yu have been fully brainwashed by the saturated fat/cholesterol/CHD MYTH as have most who answered this. All of you have much to learn.
Oatmeal does NOTHING to prevent CHD
Look up DART here:
