The Mets are extremely interested in Matt Holliday, is their clear-cut #1 target this off-season. Will pursue him very aggressively, and are willing to go to 6 years for him. Not sure as of yet what their financial limitations are with him specifically. The Cardinals are deemed to be the toughest foe for the Mets on the Holliday front, and are willing reportedly to surpass $100 million dollars on a contract for Holliday. I’ve been hearing some interesting chatter from down Tampa way that the Yankees “might” explore signing none other than long time nemesis Chone Figgins. Figgins is a very good player who could help lots of teams, but he doesn’t seem to be a good fit in the Bronx, simply for the fact that there really is no room for him- at least at the moment. The thought of Chone Figgins at the top of the Mets lineup with a healthy Jose Reyes seems very exciting. That is until you try and figure out where Figgins will play in the field. I haven’t watched enough of Figgins to give a scouting report on his defense, but defensive metrics indicate he is pretty lousy at whatever position he has played except for third base. I doubt that David Wright is going anywhere. Third base has been his primary position the last two years, but he has experience at all three outfield positions, short stop, and second base.
