Saving Money On A College Laptop

Choosing a laptop for college can be quite an intimidating decision. Higher end laptops can be quite expensive and some of the lower end ones are certainly not worth buying. With a market as big is that it is very difficult to choose what to buy.

Some questions you may want to ask yourself when choosing a laptop is what exactly you will be using it for. English majors might want a netboo, which I consider the best value laptops on the market. Something like the Acer Aspire One can run at about $400. It’s tiny size makes it good for carrying around and it’s extra long battery life makes writing on the go much easier. You can carry around a netbook anywhere as they are designed to be extremely portable and have plenty of battery power to last all day. The only problem with netbooks is that they sacrifice portability and battery life for power. Don’t expect to be doing anything too strenuous as web surfing and writing papers is pretty much all they can handle.

An art major might want something that allows for more creative expression. Without a doubt Apple has a huge grip on this market, and for good reason. The Macbook and Macbook Pro can run from $1000 to $1200, respectively. If I were to choose then I would definitely prefer the Pro version. The good thing about Macbooks is that they are designed very well and are built to last. Buying something like this is a worthwhile investment on a wonderfull product that will last many years. Apple has programs like Garage Band and Photoshop that allow the more artistically inclined to create works with tools that simply are not available on a Windows powered computer.

These are currently the two most popular choices for college students looking to purchase a laptop. Personally, I use a Toshiba NB205 netbook. I really enjoy the netbooks style of being tiny and having the battery life to be on all day. Certainly, their small price is a very attractive incentive to buy one as well. Netbooks are literally designed to be small economical computers for people on the go. This describes the perfect computer for a college student to me! Another wonderful thing about netbooks is that they are all very similar. They all pretty much use the Intel Atom processor, 1gig of RAM, and have about a 160gig hard drive. This is the standard template that companies have come to give them. This means that since they are all similar it comes down to where you can find the cheapest one.

College students are always looking for the top college laptops and to save money so if you can find a brand that is a little bit cheaper than another then go ahead and buy the less expensive one. The differences are minor and usually just costmetic. Happy Laptop Hunting!
