Chris Coste is one of the “heroes” of independent baseball from the 1990′s.  He played for leagues and teams which no longer exist, and he made it to the Major Leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies after several years in the minors.  He also wrote two books about his time in the minors. First picked up by Joe Demayo on Twitter and confirmed by a North Dakota Newspaper the Mets have signed former Phillies catcher Chris Coste and added him to the 40 man roster. Not sure how this impacts the catching situation, but if Henry Blanco is signed than perhaps the Coste signing signals the Mets will not be pursuing Bengie Molina, Rod Barajas, or any other free agent catcher. The Phillies could use a left handed relief pitcher, and although Coste is one, a right handed bat off the bench.
