The Cardinals have had a few questions in their lineup this offseason, between Adam Kennedy being released, Skip Schumaker going from the outfield to 2nd, and Troy Glaus being out for a month. The Opening Day lineup will most likely look like this:
1. Skip Schumaker, 2B
2. Ryan Ludwick, RF
3. Albert Pujols, 1B
4. Rick Ankiel, CF
5. Chris Duncan/Brian Barton, LF
6. Joe Mather, 3B
7. Khalil Greene, SS
8. Pitcher (most likely Chris Carpenter)
9. Yadier Molina, C
Once Troy Glaus comes back, the offense should improve.
What has been surprising to me during Spring Training is the revival of outfielder Chris Duncan.
.248, 6 homers, and 27 RBIs... a year to forget in 2008.
Dunc struggled greatly in 2008, hitting just .248 with 6 home runs and 27 RBIs in 76 games - and this was two years removed from a 22 HR season in 2006. Today alone, he was 2 for 3 with a 3 run homer. He is hitting .385 so far, with 2 homers and 10 RBIs. I have been very surprised, and I hope things turn out for the better.
