Fozzy, the brain child of
Chris Jericho (WWE Wrestler) and
Rich Ward (
Stuck Mojo), have signed a record deal with Century Media Records. This is good news for fans of the band and for the band itself.
Fozzy can now reach a broader audience with major label backing.
I have been following wrestling since I was seven. I used to get in trouble in fifth grade with
R.Hansell for acting out wrestling moves. We were so convincing at fake punching one another, we used to get set to the principles office for fighting. (TRUE story) I left and went to Catholic school to be touched by a priest.
Hansell went on to a different Catholic school to not be touched by a priest. When we met up in high school, the first thing I did was run and hit him with a chair. Turns out, he was over his wrestling acting and I received a real demerit for fighting. We didn't talk afterward.
I found
Fozzy from their debut album, which was largely filled with cover songs. I followed
Chris Jericho through his wrestling career and he kept promoting this metal band. I checked it out and was hooked.
Chris liberally uses vocal effects to hide his insufficient voice. However, I love the music and his voice never kills a song. Check out
Nameless Faceless off All That Remains.
The best part of the music is the simple design. Quick verse verse chorus structure and never does it take itself too serious. It is a party metal record and it's fantastic running/working out music. The groove helps keep you on an 8-9 minute mile mark, too bad I can't reach an 8-9 minute mile mark. More like 15 minute mile!
Signing with Century Media gives Fozzy an outlet for the follow up to Chasing the Grail. Their Century Media debut is sans title, but will be released in the summer (2012).
Again
Chasing the Grail sees a thicker, heavier sound brought to the band, but the same vocal effects remain attached to
Jericho's voice. It's not terrible, but the songs sound more like
Ozzy Osbourne's
Down to Earth or how
Ozzy "sings" now. Check out
Martyr off
Chasing the Grail. It's still a solid song, but I keep thinking
Ozzy is singing it.
I am still excited about the news and it coincides with
Jericho's return to the WWE. I don't watch wrestling as much anymore, but I still wear my
Bret Hart tights to bed some nights. I am the Excellence of Execution of Masturbation. I am the Best there is, The Best there was, The best there ever will be at slogging myself off.
