It’s Time For Jaguars To Make A Change

I have a deep concern about the Jaguars season.

Jack Del Rio believes in what he does. He believes in his process and his approach. Any good coach must have that belief.

But at what point does belief become stubbornness?

On Monday, following the Jaguars 26-21 loss to the Steelers, Jack Del Rio confirmed his commitment to his approach…to his “process.”

“The biggest thing that you have to do is keep doing the right things,” Del Rio said. “[You must] have the courage to keep doing the right things. I believe in that.”

Sounds like a presidential candidate.

Philosophically speaking, that makes sense. Del Rio wants his team to “do what we do, but do it better.”

At some point, if things aren’t working, you have to make a change. Right now, the running game isn’t working. Jacksonville is averaging just 108 yards per game on the ground. That’s 19th in the league. That’s not good enough.

There is little that the Jaguars can do on the offensive line until Brad Meester and Chris Naeole are ready to return to the lineup. But it may be time to mix Greg Jones into the mix more. He’s a physical runner that can muscle his way for yardage when there aren’t many holes there.

If the Jaguars can beat the Broncos, they would have a week to rest before games against Cleveland, Cincinnati and Detroit. That’s a recipe to get healthy if I’ve ever heard one.

That makes this week’s game in Denver a make or break game for the Jaguars. Beat the Broncos, and the Jaguars could be 6-3 after nine games. A loss, and at best, they’ll still be hanging around Club Mediocrity.

It’s time for Jack Del Rio to take a cue from the presidential election. It’s time for a change.
