Today we are beginning a new series. During the next eight weeks, we’re doing a series called “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality.” It’s the basis for the book of the same name, which I trust many of you will be reading. The thesis of the book is “Emotional Health and Contemplative Spirituality Must be Brought Together to have Emotionally Healthy Spirituality.” Or you can put it this way: you can’t separate emotional health and spiritual maturity. And the key thing is that when the two are brought together it offers nothing short of a spiritual revolution in our lives. It transforms the places deep beneath the ... Read Full Story

We are going to be continuing on in our series “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality” this morning. We began last week by talking about the problem of emotional unhealthy spirituality. We looked at Saul. And today we’re going to move in to “Know Yourself That You May Know God”, and we are going to look at David. This is the first of the seven pathways to emotionally healthy spirituality. If you look at the Pathways to Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, ... Read Full Story

Over the last several weeks I have been doing a LOT of self evaluation. I have been prompted to do this in at least two ways. The first prompt has come from leading someone through the Heart for Ministry course. A lot of what we have covered so far in that study has to do with understanding who we are. The second prompt to do self evaluation has come from the Emotionally Healthy Spirituality series that we are doing in our church right now. I began the journey towards an emotionally healthy spirituality a year ago and the journey continues! I realize that this ... Read Full Story

This book continues to rock my world! I want to look at two chapters today. The first chapter is "Discover the Rhythms of the Daily Office and Sabbath - Stopping to Breathe the Air of Eternity." In this chapter, Scazzero relates life to a blizzard - our lives fall somewhere between full and overflowing. We find ourselves overwhelmed and overworked and our ways of dealing with this are not helping. So Scazzero presents the Daily Office and the Sabbath as revolutionary disciplines for Christians today to bind us to the living God. The Daily Office is simply taking time to stop during the day ...
