Sermon Synopsis 10/19 - The problem of emotionally unhealthy spirituality

By Kevin on  From kevinmartineau.blogspot.com
Today we are beginning a new series. During the next eight weeks, we’re doing a series called “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality.” It’s the basis for the book of the same name, which I trust many of you will be reading. The thesis of the book is “Emotional Health and Contemplative Spirituality Must be Brought Together to have Emotionally Healthy Spirituality.” Or you can put it this way: you can’t separate emotional health and spiritual maturity. And the key thing is that when the two are...Read Full Story

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Part 7

By Kevin on  From kevinmartineau.blogspot.com
This book continues to rock my world! I want to look at two chapters today. The first chapter is "Discover the Rhythms of the Daily Office and Sabbath - Stopping to Breathe the Air of Eternity." In this chapter, Scazzero relates life to a blizzard - our lives fall somewhere between full and overflowing. We find ourselves overwhelmed and overworked and our ways of dealing with this are not helping. So Scazzero presents the Daily Office and the Sabbath as revolutionary disciplines for...Read Full Story

By Kevin on  From kevinmartineau.blogspot.com
We are going to be continuing on in our series “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality” this morning. We began last week by talking about the problem of emotional unhealthy spirituality. We looked at Saul. And today we’re going to move in to “Know Yourself That You May Know God”, and we are going to look at David. This is the first of the seven pathways to emotionally healthy spirituality. An awareness of yourself and your relationship with God are very closely related.Let’s say, for example, that...Read Full Story

More self evaluation . . .

By Kevin on  From kevinmartineau.blogspot.com
Over the last several weeks I have been doing a LOT of self evaluation. I have been prompted to do this in at least two ways. The first prompt has come from leading someone through the Heart for Ministry course. A lot of what we have covered so far in that study has to do with understanding who we are. The second prompt to do self evaluation has come from the Emotionally Healthy Spirituality series that we are doing in our church right now. I began the journey towards an emotionally healthy...Read Full Story

Sermon Synopsis 11/30 - Grow into an emotionally mature adult

By Kevin on  From kevinmartineau.blogspot.com
Today we are in week seven of our series “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality.” This morning, we’re talking about “Growing into An Emotionally Mature Adult.” Christ calls us to have a spirituality that is not disconnected, but a spirituality that is truly connected where our love for God and our love for people are inseparable. They’re just so intimately connected that they can’t be cut in half. It is very easy and possible to have a disconnected spiritual life, where we are into God, but we are...Read Full Story

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Part 8

By Kevin on  From kevinmartineau.blogspot.com
I finished the book today! The last chapter was "Go the Next Step to Develop a 'Rule of Life' - Loving Christ Above All Else." Here is Scazzero's definition of a rule of life: "A Rule of Life, very simply, is an intentional, conscious plan to keep God at the center of everything we do. It provides guidelines to help us continually remember God as the Source of our lives. It includes our unique combination of spiritual practices that provide structure and direction for us to intentionally pay...Read Full Story

I feel GOOD!

By Kevin on  From kevinmartineau.blogspot.com
In the words of James Brown "I FEEL GOOD!!" I went to the doctor yesterday and I was able to drop one more of my blood pressure medications. I am now down to just one and within two months (if I can continue to maintain my blood pressure) I will be completely off ALL blood pressure medication! I am very excited about this. I know that the biggest reason for my decrease in blood pressure is my weight loss. Since January 1st I have lost 18 pounds!! Buying the treadmill was by far the BEST...Read Full Story

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Conference Recap

By Kevin on  From kevinmartineau.blogspot.com
It is hard to believe that my time in New York has come to an end. I begin leg one of my two day journey home tomorrow. I wish I could just "BEAM" myself home! :) I am SOOO glad that I made the trip though. This was by far the BEST conference I have ever been too. The material taught was life-changing and it was very practical. There is so much that I could share but I only want to highlight one aspect. What I took away most from this conference was a new appreciation of God's love for me...Read Full Story
