Annapolis native Christian Siriano presented a subdued set in his off-site fall 2012 show. Instead of vibrant neon shades a la spring 2012, he chose ivory, pale silver, black and muted maroon as key colors in his fall 2012 collection.
Some things didn’t change, like his near-trademark voluminous skirts that graced the second half of the show. A particular highlight was this black and silver dress with a scallop print on the trumpet skirt and a sheer wrap at the shoulders. It’s red-carpet ready and shows a maturity that’s surely evolving as Siriano approaches each season. What starlet (perhaps one of the redhead variety…can you picture it?) wouldn’t want to wear this gown?
One appearance of spaghetti straps and a few pants-gone-wrong are forgiven in favor of a collection of mostly wearable, elegant dresses.
Project Runway darling Siriano has been seeking validation from the fashion industry since his appearance on the show, and the New York Times explored this in a thoughtful piece last week. Is Siriano growing up? Yes, the 26-year-old’s style is developing each season. But if Siriano’s Fall 2012 collection is pandering to industry critics with a restrained collection, I’d rather see him stick to his slightly outrageous designs—and have a blast doing it.
