WASHINGTON -- Dr. Will Austin, president of Warren County Community College, has been named the grand marshal of this year's annual Washington Celebrates America parade as part of a full day of activities in Washington Borough on Saturday June 27.

"Dr. Austin and the college have been very supportive of Washington Celebrates America over the past few years," said Richard Maguire, chair of the Washington Celebrates America committee. "This is our way of acknowledging those contributions."

The Old Fashioned Parade, which runs down Belvidere Avenue to Broad Street, begins at 3 p.m. with all the hoopla of years past, including a number of bands and a host of organizations, such as scouts, represented.

"It's a great honor and my family and I are really looking forward to this," said Dr. Austin. "The college has a great relationship with the Washington area and on behalf of the college and myself, we are truly excited to be a part of the parade."
Three years ago when the Warren Hills Middle School field was unavailable to have the fireworks due to construction, Warren County Community College offered to hold the event on its campus. For the past two years, WCCC has sponsored the Battle of the Bands competition, giving young area musicians the opportunity to play before crowds and compete for prizes.
In addition to the parade, also downtown that day will be the STS Orange Crate Derby and the Warren County Community College Battle of the Bands, and later on, a DJ concert in the early evening and then culminating in a fireworks extravaganza at the Middle School.
Any business, organization or individual who wants to donate or volunteer to help out Washington Celebrates America, should call (908) 619-5749. Washington Celebrates America is funded in part by the Warren County Cultural & Heritage Commission.
